Students who get to study with Professor Donnellan cannot escape her enthusiasm or passion for her profession. A classroom may be behind the walls of a campus building, or across the ocean in Ireland, where she took a group of students on a service-learning trip to explore the educational system in Ireland. A life-changing trip for the students, many have vowed to return to teach.

“As a teacher of teachers, I have the opportunity to impact the future of education. As I prepare future educators, it is essential to address the changes in society and education to meet the needs of children. “

Throughout her career, Professor Donnellan has taught children of varying ages, ability levels, and in a variety of educational settings. “These experiences, in tandem with my course curriculum, contribute to the career-focused education we provide in the Professional Studies in Education Department.”

She advises future teachers to “learn how your students learn before you teach course content, ” and to “create a collaborative learning environment that encourages students to ask questions and apply knowledge. “

Professor Donnellan assisted in developing the curriculum required to facilitate a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Additional License for Teachers of Students with Moderate Disabilities, PreK-9.

She teaches Curriculum for Young Learners, Infant and Toddler Education, Children’s Literature, The Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, and The Child, Environment, and Behavior.

It is important to assist students in finding a career path that is 'right' for them.
