Students in Professor Nifoussi’s classes instantly know that she is in the classroom and in her field because she loves what she does. It will not matter whether they are studying on the Mount Ida Campus or in Costa Rica, visiting wildlife sanctuaries and learning about sea turtles and mangroves.
“I come from a biomedical research background where both my graduate studies and postdoctoral fellowship were completely research-focused. When I am in the classroom I remember what it was like to be a student. Therefore, I try to incorporate stories, current events, and real world scenarios into each lesson to keep students engaged. “
For students planning to pursue a career in science, she advises, “Explore all of your options and keep your eyes open for new opportunities; don’t limit yourself to experiences based on your major; apply for internships and research opportunities that sound interesting that add depth to your life experience and see where these experiences take you. “
