Plaza at Alumni Field Dedicated in Honor of Michael Mazza

On Saturday, October 21, Mount Ida College dedicated the new Michael P. Mazza Family Plaza at Alumni Field on campus. The Plaza, which was the legacy gift to the College from the Class of 2017, was given in honor of Michael P. Mazza ‘17 and his family. Mike was a criminal justice major and member of the Mustangs football team when he passed away in February 2016.

Mazza Plaza DedicationThe Mazza family, donors to the Mazza Family Plaza, members of the Class of 2017, Mount Ida’s football team and coaches, as well as faculty and staff, attended the dedication ceremony. Speakers at the dedication ceremony included Jill Wierbicki Abrahams, Vice President for Advancement; Luke Bibber, 2017 Class Gift Chairperson; Michael Landers, Head Football Coach; and Laura DeVeau, Vice President for Student Affairs.

The Class of 2017 Cabinet cut the ribbon across the plaza following the dedication. The moment was one of great memory and emotion for the entire class. Family and friends, faculty, staff, and the Class of 2017 Cabinet attended a brunch in Miller Hall following the ceremony in honor of Mike and his family. Later in the day, the Mazza Family Plaza was used for the first time during the Mount Ida Mustangs football game as the team took the field against Maine Maritime.
